7th July 05: Tommy Thompson, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has taken the implanted microchip and joined the board of VeriChip Corporation a subsidiary of Applied Digital Inc. Mr Thompson is promoting the device primarily as a method of storing the medical information of all Americans. Recently interviewed on CBS MarketWatch, he said,
"� it will give an identification number� So it's very beneficial and it's going to be extremely helpful and it's a giant step forward to getting what we call an electronic medical record for all Americans."
Katherine Albrecht was also interviewed and pointed out the alarming threat to personal privacy and civil liberties.
